Revamping the Football Team

The Student section is shoulder-to-shoulder, the line to the concession stand is ten deep and the cheer leaders are spelling out “OHS” with their pom poms, the only thing missing? Points on the scoreboard.

Though the football team has yet to win a game this season, many changes have occurred and their improvement has shown during the games. Various changes have been made since last year’s season including stepping up practices and having no JV team, only a freshman/sophomore team.

Jake Huddlestun, Junior, who plays offensive left tackle and defensive end, takes number 74 with pride this season.

“A few changes have taken place this year including our attitudes. They are not as negative as they have been in the past and we do not think let’s take the beating and go home. We feel we can actually win this year and strive to do so.”

Changes have also been made on the coaching staff. The numbers of coaches are down and Coach Hedrick (sp?) is back.

“It’s good to see him back; he’s a great addition to the coaching staff.” Said Huddlestun.

Huddlestun also said that practices have become longer.

“We are putting in our “Man Hours” to put out a good finished product with lots of intensity.”

As for the freshman/sophomore team, he says it works out for the best, giving them time to improve their potential before they start playing with “the big boys.”

Huddlestun also believes they have a shot at winning this year.

“Deep down in my heart, I think we can win. We try to be consistent, we are not quite there but we strive to make it there.”

Huddlestun thinks that the fans are great and provide great support for the team, even when they are disappointed for not winning a single game.

Lindsey Leadbetter, Junior, also thinks they have significantly improved.

“They have gotten much better, they need some dedication but it is always fun to go out and support them.”

We all hope to win at least one game this year and will keep on supporting our cyclones.
