Senioritis

With only two weeks of school remaining, seniors are beginning to feel the pressure. As you walk through the hallways you can feel the tension as several of these seniors are on edge. Many are cantankerous and moody while at school because they have simply been here for too long at this point. With the excitement of graduation and summer, it is hard to stay focused. Senioritis has hit the class of 2010 hard.
According to reachinformation.com, senioritis is a colloquial term used in the United States to describe the decreased motivation toward studies displayed by students nearing the end of their high school careers.
Teachers and students alike are beginning to see the effects senioritis is having on this year’s senior class. This decrease in motivation takes a tole on the student’s academic performances. It is hard for all students to focus during the spring time. The weather is so beautiful that it is hard to keep focused while cooped up inside all day. Seniors, on the other hand, just simply give up around this time of year. We have made it so far though. It really comes to our self motivation in the end. Thirteen years of school is down to two weeks. Students are still having trouble sticking it out.
Senioritis the worst disease I have ever had. It may be a “joke” and only a mindset, but it really happens. After being a diligent student for 13 years, it is hard for me to shake the symptoms of senioritis. I feel burnt out on every subject, every project and every test. Many students feel like there is no point in doing some of the work we are assigned because graduation is right around the corner. It is so close that we can see it.
Several students already know that they will graduate no matter what. Therefore, it is difficult to care a great deal about finals, although we know they can greatly effect our final grades.
So, as we slowly reach the end of the next two weeks. I hope that my class finds it within themselves to finish out these 13 years as strongly as they can, and on May 23 we will walk across that stage at the Steve Grogan Stadium knowing we did it!
