Is Humiliation Hurtful?

Kids are hurt by it every day. Some even commit suicide because it reached a point to where they snapped. Kids every day and everywhere are affected by humiliation. But we only notice it at our school and on the news. It is time to take action against this hurtful and traumatizing event in a kid’s life.

Most people just do it to get laughs out of someone else’s pain. In reality, they could end up hurting themselves in the long run. Once they push that person over the edge, they could end that victim’s life, or make them put someone else’s in danger. This is still considered bullying, even though you are not showing someone in the trash can, giving them a swirly in the bathroom still, or hanging them by their undies on the flag pole, it is still verbally bullying. Words hurt people more than physical bullying.

Recently, a 15-year-old teenager from Miami, Fla. was doused in rubbing alcohol and set on fire because of a dispute over a video game. The boys are now being charged for attempted murder. A girl hung herself because of a comment on her MySpace page that was meant to humiliate her. These are the terrible things that can happen from humiliation.

There are ways to help stop bullying. If people could only see what humiliation leads to, then maybe people would be more conscious of what they are saying or doing. Everyone does it without knowing sometime or another. They do not mean to but there are always the kids that do it on purpose for their own entertainment. I have witnessed it and seen the look on the other person’s face. That is when you need to stick up for the victim. It may actually pay off in the end.
