Recently, due to the end of school dullness, you can find students playing a new game. This game requires two or more people and quick reflexes. Standing in a circle, students try to hit one another’s hands. Sounds dumb right? Not for most. It has been described as a game that can consume several hours of their day that would have otherwise been filled with boredom.

“I began to play Ninja Tag this year because my friends play. It is not a hobby necessarily, it’s just something to do when you are bored,” senior Olivia Paine said.

In order to play, you need a little space. You will also need a group of people. There are several different ways to play.

“The way I play at my church camp is players stand in a circle with one person in the middle. Players take turns trying to hit one another. You can only pivot and have one motion per turn, such as an arm movement. The person can hit someone else anywhere and that person would lose whatever limb is hit. If hit in the stomach or head, you automatically die,” senior Taylor Koberlein said.

Most students at Ottawa High School do not play this way however.

“We play by standing in a circle and trying to hit one another’s hands,” junior Tyler Mayo said. “You can only pivot and move your arm. When someone is aiming for you, you may make one movement to get out of their way.”

Mayo introduced Ninja Tag to OHS.

“I saw it begin played at another school, joined in, and then brought it here. The first time I thought about playing it here at school was during the drunk driving assembly. It saved us from suffering from boredom,” Mayo said.

No matter how you play, Ninja tag seems to be taking over. It has been known all over You Tube, Facebook and Yahoo.

“I learned about it last Thursday during sociology class. I love playing. It changes people’s lives!” senior Shelby Miller said.
