This year the Cytones are very excited for their upcoming trip. On May 6 they are arriving at the school at 5:30 a.m. to begin their trek to Dallas, Texas. The nine hour drive will be ended with an enjoyable barbeque Thursday evening.
They will participate in other activities including going to the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial and singing the song In Remembrance. On Friday, the Cytones will go to an aquarium and head to Stock Yards. Saturday will include a National Show Choir Competition and having a blast at Six Flags! Then Sunday will be the long ride home.
Though this sounds like all fun, it took a lot of hard work to get where they are now. The group has done many fund raisers to earn the money. In fact, because of their hard work, students will only have to pay for a portion of their food. Everything else is covered!
Fund raisers for the trip have been going on all year. During the Christmas season, they made a CD to sells with their songs and sold singing Carols. Likewise, for Valentine’s day they sold Singing Valentines. During March, they also sponsored a talent show and a Kiddie Clinic. May 1st the Cytones held a Car Wash and a Garage Sale that brought in a large income.
“I liked singing Valentines the best because it was touching to watch other people cry,” said senior Crycella Freitag.
Along with working hard during these fund raisers they have also worked very hard on the show they took to competition. From January through February, they had practices nearly every day after school. In both competitions they participated in, the Cytones received third place with their “Voice Dance” show. On the trip, they will compete with it one last time at a National Competition.
The Cytones are very excited to end the year off with an exciting trip.
“It’s a great opportunity for Cytones to compete nationally!” Tara Gray, choir director, said.
IN Remembrance Song/Poem
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.
