Next year, there will be a lot of changes to the every day schedule. Due to budget cuts, the school has decided to get rid of the block scheduling and switch to a seven class day schedule. With only seven classes a day there will be no room for CAT.

Many students are worried about this. As it is, students are very busy after school. They are involved in sports, clubs and work. The sports practices usually last until 5 to 5:30 and on game nights, teams arrive home around 9 or 10. After school activities and work does not leave a lot of time for homework at night. Therefore, many use CAT to finish their assignments.

“A lot of students use CAT to talk to teachers and ask for help,” junior Claire Shea said.

CAT has been a study hall that allows students to talk to teachers, like Shea said. It is also a time where things can be accomplished like making up missed homework, a test, labs and group projects.

Another fear that students have is that the seven class will mean a larger homework load.

“Basically, there will be a lot more homework because of having each class every day. It will be a lot harder to get homework done especially for people with jobs,” freshman Jessie Bittner said.

Whether the students of Ottawa High School are right to feel concern for the change or not, they will still have a big adjustment to make next year. Only time will tell how cutting CAT will affect the students.
