This year’s boys and girls basketball teams had a very successful and rewarding season. They both made it to the 4A state tournament, which was held in Salina, Kan., at the Bicentennial Center.
The boys team made it to the championship, playing against Sumner. They lost, placing second in the tournament.
“I know that we could have won. I don’t think we showed up to play the game as a team, maybe we just ran out of gas. It was really hard knowing that was my last game, very emotional,” senior Devin Martin said.
As a team, they thought that they could do better. Although, taking second in state is something that we as a school feel proud of.
“I feel as if our overall season was pretty good. We could have tried a little bit harder, and gave some more effort. Just working together better would have been good,” Martin said.
The girls team did make it to the tournament, but they did not place. On the up side, they had the second best season record in state.
“We made it to the tournament so I think that we could have made it farther. Things just didn’t work out the way we planned or wanted them to work out. Anything could have happened,” senior Shelby Miller said.
Even though neither one of the teams won the championship, there are still positive things to look at.
“I think I personally hit a peak this year, and hopefully the rest of the team continues to do the same for the years to come,” Miller said.
