As spring comes over the horizon, many activities are starting up again for students to participate in. From hitting a golf ball around to catching a softball, there are many activities to be involved in.

There are a total of six teams to join during the spring season. Ottawa High School has track, girl’s soccer, baseball, softball, golf and a boy’s tennis teams.

If you join the track team, there are many different options of events. You can be a runner, which can be short distance or long distance.  There are also throwing or jumping events. You can participate in one event, or multiple events.

The head coach of the track team is Mark Laws.

“I am doing track because I like to run, and it is lots of fun!” freshmen track runner, Alex Griffey, said.

The boy’s tennis team also competes during the spring season. They have a JV and Varsity and practice at forest park.

“My friends talked me into playing tennis and it is a lot of fun, plus a good way to stay active.” freshmen tennis player, Ryan Tipton said.

Girl’s soccer is another choice for the females of OHS. Soccer is a fun sport for those who enjoy endurance, running, working with your feet and teamwork. The team is divided into Junior Varsity and Varsity teams, coached by Kelly Smith.

Golf is a game of precision and accuracy. They also included a JV and Varsity and practice at the Ottawa Country Club, coached by Cliff McCullough.

“I am playing golf for my grandpa,” junior golf player, Hayden Soph, said.

The baseball and softball teams had very successful seasons last year, and will strive for yet another. They are also both divided into JV and Varsity, coached by Shawn Herrmann and Cory Katzer. You would probably enjoy this sport if you like sprinting, sliding, batting, and catching fly balls.

However, sports are not the only option for this season. The Spring Play is also starting up, putting on the production of Field County.

“I just decided this year to try something new so I joined the play! And the play is hilarious!” junior play participant, Claire Shea, said.

With so many activities, spring is sure to zoom by and next thing we know, summer will be here!
