Good news for college goers, Neosho Country Community College will be building a new Campus right here in Ottawa. During discussions on expanding the Ottawa campus the College Board agreed that it would be a better idea to go with a whole new campus. At the hope of staying close to home, the staff found 27 acres of land on Route 68 for the site.

Payton Bulmer shares her thoughts about the campus.

“I think it will provide good opportunities for high school and college students alike.”

At the thought of expanding the current NCCC campus, many renovations would need to be done to make a successful innovation. The ground was too low and exhibited a problem with floods. They knew there were better ways to spend their money on something much better than ground. The solution? A new campus site to serve the Ottawa and surrounding communities.

Susanne Stevenson, senior, thinks that the current location is the best location rather than a new one.

“I think it would be a bad location. Right now the campus is great since it is also so close to the high school,” Stevenson said.

Why would they build a new campus? During the past year the number of enrolling students has sky rocketed, creating a space problem at the current location. In a message on the college website, President Dr. Vicky R. Smith agreed it was time for a solution.

“The NCCC Board of Trustees is very future-oriented and recognizes that now is the time to solve our space crunch at Ottawa. The cost of building is very, very low and the cost of bonds is very, very low,” said Smith.

For upperclassmen looking for someplace close to home, NCCC is always a safe and friendly college to attend and is well known for its nursing program.
