It is the stressful end of the semester, the time that every high school student dreads: finals. We cram study and are up to the late hours of the night trying to finish that final paper or 10-page essay. Textbooks weigh our backpacks down like bricks and papers flood our rooms, cars and binders. All these overwhelming class assignments are supposed to be preparing us for college and the real world, but are finals hurting or helping us?
Good grades could possibly be at risk with the result of a bombed final. Stress and a tired diligent student may not take that final exam to their full potential. With the worry of all the other subjects they have to take they are not entirely focused on the exam presented to them at the time. With all the vocabulary words, facts, answers, questions and essays floating around in our heads it becomes an overwhelming sensation that seems to drown you taking away the full potential you could be providing on each test.
The stress of finals week takes its toll on the student body mentally and physically. You see more bags under the eyes, sudden breakouts on people’s faces, more comfortable clothing options, and a caffeinated beverage usually in hand.
We all know how ridiculous and intense these final weeks can be so we are all looking for an outlet, some form of relief from the hectic four days of torture. Some people have found out that taking simple steps during finals week can save you a lot of time and prevent stress on yourself and your tired brain.
- Get organized!- Keeping all your notes and old homework assignments together in binders or notebooks can be a life saver when it comes to studying for finals
- Start studying early.- The earlier you start, the more prepared you will be and your studying will be more spread out across your calendar, preventing late night cram studying.
- Eat breakfast- Breakfast helps students in school focus better and gives you energy to ace your next test.
- Get at least 7 hours of sleep.- Sleep is a key element to resting your brain that has been working on overdrive for the week. If you are rested then you will perform better in school instead of falling asleep during lectures and notes causing you to lose key information
- Usually caffeine is definitely not considered the best drink of choice for teenagers. But we all know that it can definitely help you get some stuff done fast and efficiently without feeling the effects of the lack of sleep that finals might cause.
These tips hopefully can help you stay afloat during your finals and not drown in a sea of work that lays ahead of you. I wish you all good luck, and please keep this advice in mind!
