Are We to Blame for the Spread of Sickness?

It is not news that the number of students and teachers who have been sick this year is not exactly at an all time low. In fact, Kris Wallace, the attendance secretary, estimated that the percent of ill students and teachers has more than doubled from last year. While there has been a large number of students and staff members getting the flu, a small portion of those actually being H1N1- many cases are solely mere cold and allergy sicknesses.
Of course some students always think that they will not be the ones to get sick. So, they are the ones who parade around, drinking from other people, sneezing and coughing into the air, and sadly, not washing their hands after using the bathroom. Sure enough, days later, their parents are calling them into school because they have, shockingly, come down with a bug. We might be in high school, but how much common sense do we need to know what to do to prevent sickness?
“I think that if people would stay home when they came down with the flu or cold, that many other cases could be prevented,” said junior Lindsey Leadbetter. “ Students should not try to come to school if they are still sick, because it increases the chances of other students and staff members to become sick as well.”
Many sicknesses and absences from school could be prevented if students and staff members would just stay home when they are sick, instead of coming to school and spreading the viruses. Although it might be tough to make up homework or get caught up, staying home and taking care of yourself will be better for everyone in the long run. You will not spread sickness to other people, and your chances of becoming sick again will become slim.
