There are many talented students at Ottawa High.  Skills range from a great 3-point shot to an excellent softball swing. This Friday, March 26, a special kind of ability will be featured in the OHS talent show: artistic ability.

Art comes in many forms and this Friday’s show will be made up of acts ranging from guitar players to garage bands to girl duos.  Jacob Fischer, senior, will be playing his guitar in the show.

“I think the show will be pretty fun, it has been so far,” Fischer said.

Fischer has been playing his guitar for a little more than four years and even though he feels pretty comfortable playing in front of people he said every performance helps.

Sophomores Kali Hinman and Chelsea Jamison are also performing in the show, singing “Leave the Pieces” by The Wreckers.  Hinman said doing the show is going to be good practice for performing. Jamison said there were a couple different reasons why they decided to do the show.

“Mrs. Gray wanted us to do it, so we did. We also did the variety show in eighth grade too and that was pretty fun,” Jamison said.

Though it seems many of the acts revolve around singing and musical instruments, choir teacher and talent show coordinator, Tara Gray, said that she gave the kids the option of doing anything creative.

“I told them they could do whatever, but it’s mostly just singing, instruments and bands,” Gray said. “But I still haven’t decided what I am going to do yet!”

To keep the show unique, Gray is considering doing some juggling or magic tricks and she has some teachers coming to put on a surprise performance.

“The talent show is a good experience for students to get up in front of their peers. A lot of the time, they are surprised by what they see. They go ‘Wow! I didn’t know you could do that,’” Gray said.

Attendees of the concert will not only be getting to see good performances, but they will be contributing to a cause very important to the choir program. Gray said that tickets are three dollars and all the money made from the show will go to pay for the Cytones’ trip to Dallas in May. Many Cytones will be performing in the show as well.

The show is sure to be good for the students in many ways, including a prize for the first place winner. Gray hopes to see a good turn-out for all the students and adds for potential audience members: “Bring a friend!”
