S.A.Y. W.H.A.T.?! Stand and yell; we have amazing talent. S.A.Y. W.H.A.T. has been around since 2006. It has evolved and become a bigger and better each school year since then. This year is no different. The Student Council Executive Board made a decision over summer to make S.A.Y. W.H.A.T. a year-long event. This is only one of the many changes StuCo has made to make Ottawa High a better school.

Along with S.A.Y. W.H.A.T. lasting all year, StuCo also saw the need for more student involvement, therefore, S.A.Y. W.H.A.T. cards were created. There will be potential S.A.Y. W.H.A.T. points for each individual student to earn for their class. A full card is worth four points. All sports will be included if time allows. There will be a total of three cards throughout the year, one for each sports season. If a card is lost, a replacement can be purchased for $1 from Mrs. Kristi Miller’s room, 305.

“We really hope the student body uses the cards as an opportunity to be more involved and to get S.A.Y. W.H.A.T. points for their class,” Abby Guenther, senior and student body president, said.

StuCo also only has two sponsors this year, whereas years past they have had three. The sponsors are Miller and Mrs. Stella Tharp.

“I like only having two sponsors because it is on less person things have to passed through,” Tabitha Mcpheron, sophomore said.

Being the student’s voice, StuCo feels as though they play an important role here at OHS. Therefore it is important that each member is present at each meeting. Each member was assigned a partner. New members were paired with experienced members. If a student’s partner is tardy to a meeting, they owe five cents. If their partner is unexcused absent, they owe 10 cents. This ensures that every member is reminded more than once that there will be a meeting.

StuCo hopes that these changes will create a better student life at OHS.
