Things to Do When You Are Too Old to Trick-or-Treat

So, you are a bit too old to trick or treat, huh? You have tried dressing up and taking around a bucket to collect candy, but people say you are too old. Maybe you have put on a costume and taken a younger sibling around to collect some loot, but those who give out the goods still refuse to give you any. Not to worry seekers of Halloween fun! There are plenty of other things you can do to have a great time this Halloween!
One classic option for good Halloween entertainment is to invite some friends over and watch scary movies. Get some popcorn (better yet, candy corn) and other seasonal refreshments and have an exclusive showing of all the best creepy clips. You can watch all the old classics, or opt for some of the newer flicks. According to Boston.com and the Boston Globe, the top five scariest movies of all time are “Alien”, “The Ring”, “Rec”, “Ju-on” (the Japanese version of “The Grudge”), and “The Thing.” So go rent one and get your fright night started off right!
Another thing to do on Halloween is to dress up in your best or scariest costume and scare your family members. You can also dress up and hand out candy to kids who are not too old to trick-or-treat. In between giving out pieces of candy, you could also sneak a few pieces for yourself!
Another option is to plan and host a Halloween party with other oldies! Invite all your friends who are also too old for trick-or-treating and socialize. Create freaky foods like “bloody” lady fingers or pumpkin cheese balls. Put up haunting decorations in your house like white flowers dipped with red paint, spider webs or gravestones. You can also play spooky music while you all hang out to set a mysterious mood.
If you do not have time to plan a party or do not feel like you are creative enough, grab your pals and go to a haunted house! Haunted houses are always a good way to get some thrills and sometimes even laughs. There are a couple good haunted houses in Ottawa: one at the Ottawa Municipal Auditorium at 2nd and Hickory Street and one on 11th Street. The wait to get into these attractions may be a bit long, but it can be worthwhile if you are looking for a good scare.
One final way to make your Halloween fun and creative is to grab some friends and record your own scary movies! Create a remake of your favorite scary show, or come up with a whole new idea. Make it as crazy, hilarious or chilling as you want.
If you are still moping over the fact that you are getting old and Halloween will not be as fun as it was when you are little, quit your crying right this minute! This is a holiday that can be crazy and exciting if you choose to make it that way, so go grab your sense of adventure and have an absolutely haunting Halloween!
