Musical Influence

Music is something that has been around for years. From the Beatles to Taylor Swift, music has been an influence on all ages. Music could be the change that makes s a bad day good and a good day better. As we listen to the lyrics of our favorite Lady Gaga song we unwind the day; school, work and home has definitely taken its toll on us teenagers.
Starting the day off we head to school, rocking out in our cars as we make our way down ash street. There are so many papers to write, tests to study for and notes to take. We plug our ear buds into our iPod and start clearing everyone and everything else out. Ideas start to flow, essay topics start flooding our minds, and a really good beat starts making your foot tap a little more. Music has often times been the root of inspiration in many lives.
Claire Shea, junior, is an active member of cytones, jazz band, church choir, city band, pick-up bands and is a drum major this year for the band. She has also participated in state solo and ensemble and the regional music festival.
“I am pursuing a music education career after college and I use music as a vice to get away from all the stress of high school.” Shea said.
For many other students here at Ottawa High School, the inspiration is also for other activities such as dance and poetry as well.
Simayah White, sophomore, is on the dance team and besides that, she likes to sing as well.
“I also like to write poems because of the inspiration from music.”
Simayah as well as the rest of the dance team are inspired to dance and express themselves through music.
As the economy is getting worse, music in school is being cut. Taking away music would not only crush so many students’ dreams but take away a freedom to express themselves that they have so often used. Music has made a difference is life.
Hayden Soph, Junior, is a member of the band, jazz band and also takes trumpet lessons.
“I guess I would say that music’s my life!” Soph said.
Soph says he plays because her just loves music overall and enjoys playing for groups.
Music has been an influence to many students here and has created a big impact in their lives that will and has affected their futures in great ways.
