Make it Up!
Have you been stuck at home with a fever, chills, coughs, and raspy breathing? Believe it or not, you are not alone. Many students were gone from school this past nine weeks. It was reported from the office to parents who have called their children in sick that over 70 students were absent in a single day. Along with being sick and missing school comes the load of makeup work and tests from all of your classes.
Unfortunately, many teachers have reported that we, as a student body have not been up to par on getting our missed assignments and turning them in.
“There have definitely been students missing. A lot of students don’t take the initiative to get make up work done until they realize they need it several weeks later,” Amy Bolton, English teacher said.
Not turning in work and missing big tests can really hurt your grades. On Oct. 16, a lot of students probably logged on to their accounts on GoEduStar to check their quarter grades. What a lot of people saw were zeros next to assigned class work.
You may think, “I have all this other work to do. Not doing one paper won’t hurt me.” Wrong! I have had two 10-point assignments from when I was sick that are entered as zeros. Just those two zeros caused my grade to nearly drop a letter. That drop in a grade can really make a difference in your average semester grade. For some, that could cross the thin line between passing and failing a course. Teachers are not evil dictators who will shun you if you are not in class due to illness. No, they understand if you are sick. However, they do want you to make up your late work to help yourself do the best you can in your classes.
So, do yourself a favor and go in to your teachers before or after school, or during CAT to get your makeup work. Teachers won’t stop you in the hallway, to give you what you missed. Do not let the sick bug get you behind.
