Earthquake Relief
By now the earthquake in Haiti has become a popular topic in the news. Thousands are dead and more are dying. Thursday the 13th of January medical aid and food and water have begun to run into Haiti. Slowly they are getting help but the country has been demolished. They lost the hospitals, homes and many other types of things. As of now the president is working hard to get aid over to Haiti so it is not another disaster like the 2005 Hurricane Katrina. Obama wants to make sure that they have enough supplies. They need help fast too; they are running out of water, food and places to put the dead. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, and the population of 9 million already faces high rates of tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, viral and respiratory disease. Because they cannot afford the tools to rescue people, they have to use anything they can which ranges from their hands to shovels but they are not getting people out fast enough.
There is a way for people to help the Haiti earthquake if they would like. Hillary Clinton and Cheryl Mills have created a blog post. If you want to help donate $10 by texting “HAITI” to “90999.” The $10 donation will go automatically to the Red Cross “to help with relief efforts” and will be charged directly to your cell phone bill, the Web site said. Helping may have a price but the feeling afterwards is priceless.
